Guided by a forward looking vision, the Founders recognized a growing demand for imported goods and began bridging local market needs with global supply sources.
Through direct engagement with overseas suppliers, the business navigated the complexities of international sourcing, cross border trade, customs procedures, and the handling of time sensitive goods. These early experiences laid the groundwork for a deep operational understanding of logistics as a critical driver of reliability, efficiency, and long term business growth.
As the market evolved, the Group recognized that sustainable scalability required greater control over the movement of goods. This insight led to a strategic expansion beyond retail and into logistics and freight solutions. In 2000, the Group established its logistics platform, World Commerce Freight System (WCFS)—marking a pivotal transformation into an integrated supply chain solutions provider.
Over the years, WCFS has built comprehensive capabilities across freight forwarding, customs brokerage, warehousing, and specialised logistics services, supporting a diverse client base across Southeast Asia.
Today, Hock Choon Group (Cayman) Limited operates as an investment holding company with operations in Malaysia focusing its presence in logistics and supply chain solutions. Leveraging decades of operational expertise, established industry relationships, and a strong foundation in cross border trade, the Group is well positioned to capture growth opportunities in the rapidly evolving regional and global logistics landscape
So, in 2000, together with his brother Jeffrey, Mervin founded World Commerce Freight Services – a logistics company devoted to helping other young dreamers in Malaysia make their dreams come true by optimizing how all sorts of goods could move across borders efficiently, seamlessly, and reliably.
Today, World Commerce Freight Services, with 75 employees and five locations throughout Malaysia, is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading providers of end-to-end integrated supply chain logistics services. These services, which include air, ocean, and land freight, warehousing, e-commerce shipments, exhibition packing, and customs clearance brokerage, are used by an ever-growing list of many of Southeast Asia’s largest food suppliers as well as other major companies across the region.
Still managed by Executive Director Mervin Lim, World Commerce Freight System Sdn Bhd is proud to be one of the subsidiaries housed under a parent company that bears the name of the supermarket that inspired its formation.
